Chatsworth SAVED Roster! All of these are Saved!! YEA!

In absence of a formal website for them to track this, we at SEPRR are taking in all the success stories from this shelter and updating them in this blog entry.

Last update: November 5, 2009 10pm EST

102909 003 - Poor, sweet, tiny chihuahua was found in this awful shape. He has chemical burns all over his body, including his paws which are now bandaged. The vet said she expects a full recovery, but he needs TLC now.

102909 005, 007 - Precious 1 ½-yr-old mommy has eight tiny puppies. The family was abandoned when a family moved away and left them there. Mommy is not still pregnant, she just has a swollen belly from malnutrition. She is eating well now. She is cute and sweet. She gets along well with people and with other dogs. And the puppies are adorable.

When I talked to him at 4pm, they had taken in 10 dogs today alone. So, once again, this is imperative!!!! Please let me know ASAP if you are able to drive.

Once again, cross posting and forwarding would be much appreciated! And again, you guys are the best drivers on the planet and I want to thank each of you…I don’t do that enough.

I’m trying to move 5 dogs and 6 pups this weekend from Shelbyville, KY to Hopkinton, MA. Health Certs for all!!

Dakota/Daytona is still on the fence for coming…as of Monday she still had a slight cough. We shall see. We may pull her and switch for someone else or not…we are playing it by ear.

If, by chance you think you can manage all of the dogs with 2 cars, please let me know ASAP and I will remove the need for a 3rd driver so that frees some up for driving other transports.

Please let us know ASAP if you are able to help. Please provide me with the following information:

URGENT: City of Waycross GA dictates to Shelter - "Eliminate 40 Dogs! NOW!"

40 DOGS Immediate Euthanization -  W/o notice CITY OF WAYCROSS GA dictates Shelter reduce dogs from 124 to 80.  http://bit.ly/1Lm13I

(I have personally called to discuss the situation with the shelter managers, animal control officers for Ware County, as well as staff at the OHS.. They are all very responsive, want to do whatever they can to avoid PTS any of the adoptable ones, but they do not have a lot of choices unless Rescue Groups respond, and respond NOW. - Beau Grant, Director SEPRR)

Highly Urgent.  Everyone update to the list if you have progress updates. Shelter Contact Info is below.

As of this morning's visit from the City of Waycross, and without any other prior notice, this shelter will be forced to reduce their canine population from 124 to 80, NOW. Immediately. Over 40 dogs including 13 puppies in immediate danger of PTS/Euthanasia.

The shelter managers are scrambling to find ways to rescue, foster, or somehow reallocate as many as possible.  The cats need help, but they are safe from immediate PTS, thanks to a local vet who is housing them, all 15, in their office.

Of the canines- 95% are adoptable, non-aggressive, healthy pets. 3 are being put down for aggression or illness. All the rest are of sound quality.

All of this is tragically ironic. The Okefenokee Humane Society is under construction for 140 runs, entirely rebuilding the shelter, and construction is under way.

The City of Waycross has simply put down the hammer, and given no time for any form of appropriate response. During the construction period, the Humane Society has stopped accepting pets from law enforcement. Local citizens have protested, and forced the City to force the Humane Society to make room for the ones on the street, and also decrease numbers. All of this came to a head this AM, and it has been a very abrupt event for the shelter.
