RT @seprr TOMORROW! Vote for GA Candidates who Support Animal Welfare Issues! http://ht.ly/2njou #petrescue #gapolitics
Tomorrow is election day, and an enormous opportunity to ensure the ballot is full of candidates in support companion animal welfare interests.

Since Primary Run-Off elections experience extremely low turn outs, between 5-7%, Animal Advocates have the possibility to Rock the Vote!

If you have not voted in the Primary, you can vote for either party. If you already voted in the Primary, you MUST vote for the candidates available for the party you have already selected during the Primary election.

Of primary interest to those in favor of reforming animal welfare in Georgia, the Republican Party in Georgia is having a Run Off election between Karen Handel and Nathan Deal.

Judging from Deal's record, if he becomes governor of Georgia, little will be done to put a stop to all the killing in Georgia's tax payer funded animal control facilities. His record is at the end of this message.

Specifically: In 2008 Sportsmen and Animal Owner's Voting Alliance gave Representative Deal a grade of 100. This is a pro-hunting, pro-animal agriculture group.

Representative Deal supported the interests of the The Humane Society of the United States only 17 percent in both sessions of Congress in 2007-2008. This is an anti-hunting, anti-agriculture, anti-gun group. This group is supported, by the way, by that bastion of Conservative thought, Rush Limbaugh.

By contrast, Karen Handel CLEARLY supports change, both by her words and her actions. If she is elected Governor, something will actually be accomplished towards ending the brutal existence of our state's companion animals.

SEPRR received this statement directly from Miss Handel:

Karen Handel Statement of Support for Pet Rescue Efforts

I have so much respect and appreciation for those wonderful animal lovers who volunteer and for those who support animal rescue efforts. Because of their extraordinary love for animals and their dedication to the rescue effort, so many of them have been saved and have gone on to enrich the lives of those who have adopted these very special pets.

My husband Steve and I have two wonderful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels named Maggie and Mia. Several years ago we found a wonderful pet named “Katie, “ also a Cavalier for Steve’s mother. We found Katie at the Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue in Atlanta, a wonderful rescue organization that specializes in finding good homes for abandoned Cavaliers. Katie proved to be a wonderful companion and brought so much joy to Steve’s mother.

As I travel throughout the state, I enjoy visiting pet rescue groups and speaking with them about all the good things they are doing and the challenges they face. A few weeks ago, I visited with a great rescue group in Henry County and they had a very sweet ruby cavalier in need of a loving home and I really wanted to bring her to Maggie and Mia. I was happy to learn a few days later that she had indeed found her forever home with a good family – another happy ending thanks to the good people in the pet rescue community.

"Thanks for all you do for animals and those who are able to adopt them as a result of your efforts."

These groups rate politicians according to how they voted on specific legislation dealing with their particular issue of interest.

I would say that he has impeccable conservative credentials.

Deal was my older brother's classmate and fraternity brother at Mercer University in the early 1960s. My brother says he is one of the finest men he knows.
